Beaver’s Personal Challenges

Beaver_PCWith St George’s Day on Saturday the focus of this week’s Beaver Colony meeting was around facing adversity, linked with the Beaver’s Personal Challenge badge.

Each Beaver was asked, with their parents, to decide upon a challenging activity they can complete over the next 4-6 weeks. The activity should relate to growing up and take a good degree of effort and time to complete.

This is a great opportunity for scouting to give the Beavers a boost in something he/she may need that extra impetus on.

The challenges the children are doing include learning to tie shoelaces, learning to ride a bike without stabilisers and learning several scales on the violin to name a few.

We’re looking forward to tracking these over the next few weeks and seeing how the Beaver’s get on!

answerthat! is a quiz night with a difference.

Another great night of fun at the Parish Hall with over 100 parents and friends enjoying rounds such as Have I got news for you, Countdown and Question of Sport.  A big thank you to all who came and also to EXU, the exec committee and Leaders who organised the event raising funds for camping equipment and hopefully some new Kayaks for the summer.

Lads & Dads Camp 25-27th September

0

Another weekend packed with fun, challenge and adventure held on the Chatsworth estate.  The lads and dads took part in a cycling challenge, a rugby challenge, non stop cricket, built ballistas, built a large camp fire, air rifle shooting, peg and wine bottle challenges and so much more.

The highlight for many on Saturday night was watching the England Wales Rugby match on a large screen sat around the camp fire!

The competition was a tie for first place which went down to the very last activity – Horse Shoe Hoopla! Congratulations to the Chennerys and the Houltons crowned champion lad and dad 2015.

And a big thank you to all the leaders who made the weekend possible – and the the family of Fred May (Former Group Chairman) whose legacy was spent on a new gate into the field.

Alpaca Farm Visit

We had a fantastic evening at Mayfield Valley Alpaca Farm last week. While the boys were able to feed many of the animals and hold a skunk the highlight of the evening was the extremely large pig going to the toilet in front of the boys…typical!
