Queen’s Scout Awards

The eXu Explorers and Leaders from the 20th were at Windsor Castle this weekend, celebrating the Queen’s Scout Awards and paraded in front of HM The Queen and Chief Scout Bear Grylls. Congratulations to all of them.

Parents – Subs are now overdue

Subs are now overdue. If you have not paid, please download the forms, complete them and add your payment by cheque (20th Sheffield Scout Group) and put in an envelope and return to your section leader urgently. Please complete the gift aid form as this allows the Group to reclaim tax and helps keeps the price of subs down.

Please remember that the Group committee and the leaders are all volunteers and chasing subs up take up a lot of there time : do your bit now and pay straight away. subs letter March 2012 Gift Aid Form[1]

Summer Camp 2012

Thank you to all Scouts who helped packed on Tuesday.

Friday August 12^th Meet 6.30pm at the Scout room to load the lorry. Bring all personal kit to be loaded – Mums & Dads required to help load. Keep your wash kit, cagoule and day bag at home and bring on Saturday morning. Please bring any medication in a sandwich box clearly marked with your name and hand in to Andrew.

Saturday August 13^th Meet at the Scout room at 4.20 am.You should travel in Troop Polo Shirt, necker and hoody. You can wear Scout trousers, or smart plain shorts. Cagoule in your day sack not your luggage ! You need a spare T shirt and shorts in your day bag to change into when we arrive at camp.

ALL KIT IN HOLDALLS OR CASES – NO BIN BAGS AND NOTHING DANGLING OUTSIDE BAGS, INCLUDING PILLOWS. Kit will be outside while we set up camp and it might be raining.

Scouts should pack their own bags so they know what they have brought.

Group Executive Committee

The Group is run by volunteer leaders supported by the parents committee. If you can spare some time to help at events, please get in touch with Chris Staves, Group Chairman. It is vital that we have at least one parent from each section on the committee but we also need volunteers for maybe just a couple of hours each year, painting the scout room, helping with transport or helping out at just one fund raising event. It’s your Group – get involved and join in the fun.

Wharf Shed Weekend

Another great weekend away with all the Scouts and leaders enjoying activities such as making a morse transmitter, outdoor games, dvd’s and a mega wacky waters session in Belper. Pictures are now in the gallery.

The Next weekend away will be Spring camp in May.

eXu Summer Camp 2012

Summer Camp 2012 will be between the dates Friday 20th July and Saturday 4th August.

We will be camping in France next summer at a venue which will allow us to have access to a wide range of activities (white water rafting, canyoning, canoeing, climbing, hiking etc). We will be travelling to the campsite in the minibuses again and we estimate it will take us a day and a half to get to our destination, probably with an overnight stop on the outskirts of Paris. The cost of summer camp will be £500. This will include travel, accommodation, food and most activities.

There is still 1 place available for summer camp if you would like to come.

*cheques made payable to 20th Sheffield Scout Group.

Centenary Reunion Dinner

Saturday 26th November 2011, Cutler's Hall Sheffield

The dinner is for current and past ex-members, Leaders past and present, Supporters and Friends of 20th to celebrate the Centenary of our Scout Group.

We would like yourself and a guest to join us for an evening of looking back, looking forward and catching up with old friends. There will also be the opportunity to find out what our Scout Group is up to today and what has made it so successful.

Venue The Cutlers Hall, Church Street Sheffield S1 1HG

Timings 7 for 7.30pm, Carriages at 12.30am

Dress Smart (Black tie not necessary)

PL Training weekend and Airkix Flight experience

Dec 2nd – 4th Hundall Activity Centre

This weekend is just for the PL’s – a chance to learn some new leadership skills during a relaxed, pre Christmas weekend away. Hundall is in-between Chesterfield and Sheffield and is a small centre in a field.During the weekend we will do some Patrol Leader training and also go to the Aquafun session at the local swimming baths. There will be DVD’s and loads of food – which you will be cooking ! Depending on how good you are at the training and cooking, on Sunday, we are going to AIRKIX in Manchester. Airkix is freefall flying – without a parachute !

Meet at the Scout Room, Friday 7.15pm We will return on Sunday at 4pm.

Kit -

Sleeping bag Pillow + a sheet. Wash kit. Towel. Swimming Shorts. Clothes to get Muddy + boots – WARM CLOTHES for outdoors. Indoor shoes or slippers. You must have a pair of lace up trainers to fly at airkix. Coat. The centre is heated but will not be that warm !
